Our dogs are treated like kings and queens. Fed, watered, fussed whenever they like. So, is there such a thing as luxury dog treats? Karen Rhodes at Luxury Dog Hampers has given us a bit more information about how to spoil your dog, the right way.
What are luxury dog treats? Find out what they are, how you can spoil your dog without the luxury price tag and treats you can make at home.
For me, the word luxury conjures up images of high-end designer clothing brands, 5-star hotels, and Champagne with a 5-figure price tag. But did you know that it’s not only reserved for humans, but you can also spoil your four-legged friend with luxury too?
You’ll be glad to know that it’s not just a lifestyle only afforded by the super-wealthy; find out how you can lavish your dog with high-end treats without breaking the bank.
What Are Luxury Dog Treats?
It’s a minefield deciding what treats to buy for your four-legged friends. Maybe you don’t give it much thought and pick up something from the pet aisle of the supermarket when you do your household shopping. You’ll be surprised to know that a lot of shops sell mass-produced dog treats containing unnecessary additives which offer no nutritional benefit to your dog.
Luxury in the dog world is simply purchasing the best quality you can so think beyond the mass-produced and stacked high in the supermarket. To me, luxury is buying from a small business that has perfected its recipes and pours its heart and soul into creating the most drool-worthy dog treats.
Luxury is also buying dog treats with natural ingredients which are healthy and benefit your dog. So, it is always recommended to buy natural dog treats where possible as it is much better for their health.
Once you start feeding luxury dog treats, you’ll never want to go back. They have so many benefits which you just don’t get from processed treats. Some treats with hair like Venison ears, for example, act as natural wormers and most importantly are super tasty, healthy, safe, and your dog will go crazy for them. Your dog’s teeth will be cleaner and their coat luscious and shiny.
Some of my favourite luxury dog treats are from companies that started out making treats for their dogs in their own kitchen. Many were inspired to create wholesome, healthy treats for their dogs with food allergies or needed a special diet and realised there were other dog owners who were facing the same problem.

Check the Ingredients
Before you buy your dog treats, check out the ingredients list on the back of the packet. If you can’t pronounce something and think you need a science degree to figure out what it all means, it’s probably best to avoid it.
Some larger mass-produced brands are a little sneaky with their labelling and when you look closely at their ingredients, a large percentage is listed as ‘other’ without specifying what that other ingredient is. Sometimes it’s a by-product or waste from a completely different product altogether that was not intended for canine consumption which I think you’ll agree is quite naughty. Don’t get me wrong, these may not harm your dog, but they’re not the healthiest option and contain a lot of calories. If fed too often can lead to weight gain which is probably why we see many more overweight dogs.
Colouring is also used by clever marketers to make them appealing to us and not our dogs. Dogs really don’t care if their treats are pretty and multicoloured, it’s all about the taste for them.
Are You Worried About The Cost?
I’m not going to lie, you won’t be able to purchase luxury dog treats from discount stores, but you’ll be surprised to know they actually are not that expensive. Some items can be purchased loose and some packs of treats work out as little as 50p per treat so you can buy a whole load of goodies for the price of a coffee and a cake.
Due to the quality and sometimes, the richness of the treats, you’ll find you will feed less than you would if you were giving your dog a handful of supermarket shapes. There are some fantastic companies who sell luxury dog treats, too many to mention but a Google search for natural dog treats will bring up some fantastic results that won’t disappoint even the fussiest of Fidos.
